The University of Lodz, and within it a group of researchers gathered within the PolBOL initiative from the Department of Invertebrate Zoology and Hydrobiology, as well as scientists from the Department of Algology and Mycology and the Museum of Natural History of the University of Lodz, have been cooperating with other scientific institutions in Poland since 2003 as part of the National Biodiversity Information Network (KSIB). The effects of joint activities included information available on the BioMap.pl platform, cooperation within the IMBIO program (Integration and mobilization of data on the diversity of Eukaryotes in the resources of Polish scientific institutions) financed from the European Funds "Digital Poland" and participation in the development of the Digital Catalog of Biodiversity of Poland (CKBP) published by the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF).
Since 2022, KZBiH has been the contact point of the KSiB within the University of Lodz. Cooperation within this network aims to make data on biodiversity as widely available as possible. Currently (together with 21 institutions) we are implementing a project called "Polish Node of Global Biodiversity Information Facility" as part of the program "Support for the participation of Polish scientific teams in international research infrastructure projects" financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The aim of the project is to link data on biodiversity in Poland with the GBiF database and supplement its resources with a molecular "layer" - DNA barcodes for individual species. The main task of our team, implemented together with colleagues from the University of Warsaw and the Jagiellonian University, is "Extending CKBP with molecular data - metabarcoding based on data from the collection of specimens in cooperation with the PolBoL (Polish Barcode of Life) program".
