In the first week of September, the 10th International Barcode of Life Conference and the annual meeting of the iBOL Science Committee took place in Belem (Brazil), which gathered about 350 people from all over the world. The Department of Invertebrate Zoology and Hydrobiology of the University of Lodz as well as the Polish Barcode of Life initiative were represented by: Tomasz Mamos, Tomasz Rewicz, Piotr Gadawski, Andrea Desiderato and Michał Grabowski (member of the iBOL Science Committee). The conference was devoted to various aspects of the use of DNA (meta)barcoding and derivative techniques in biodiversity research and the latest trends in the development of this methodology. Our colleagues not only presented the results of their research and established new scientific contacts, but also immersed themselves in Belem, which is extraordinary in every respect, and in the incredibly lush Brazilian nature.
